As the recession continues and I trudge on through my own attempts at job hunting, one thing I continually come back to is what a bloody waste it is to have such a high unemployment rate. We are such an inefficient society that there should be a better way to slot people into positions or make use of their time and talents when they are between jobs. We are paying people, myself included in this, to be unemployed and take up space. It would be better spent say building houses, cleaning up the water ways etc. Alot of these volunteer opportunities exist in small bursts but because they are most often for the working folks they are at times such as evening or weekends when I dont have child care easily available. My own whinging about this is a First World Problem. One which those who are scrapping to get by and those who dont live a comfortable First World Middle Class life will look at and openly seethe over this being our greatest difficulty.
Humans, and Americans specifically have created armies, sent men to the moon, built pyramids and yet we waste perfectly good man hours being idle. I wish there was a better job bank or volunteer opportunities around as although I do not overrate my own skills I am happy to contribute to a project that needs hands, skills, or ideas. Whats an underutilized person to do except jump in and start their own projects?
